Participating in regional and global internet governance discussions helps to protect the technical foundations of a globally accessible internet and to keep a trusted, secure and stable digital environment for today and for future generations.

The main recommendations outlined in this position paper are:

•    Multistakeholder model: The multistakeholder model should be maintained, and fora such as the IGF should be supported. A balanced stakeholder involvement that sufficiently includes the private sector is needed.

•    Meaningful Connectivity: A distinction should be made between the coverage gap and the usage gap. The most important gap to be closed in connecting the unconnected is the usage gap.

•    Standards: Standards should be high-quality and future-proof, while working to promote interoperability, interworking, and deliver economy of scale/scope.

•    Future technologies: Additional technical capabilities will be needed to meet the requirements demanded by future technologies, such as virtual worlds.

•    Trusted, secure and resilient digital landscape: Connect Europe members value and invest in cybersecurity and resilience measures.
