Alessandro Gropelli

Director General

Alessandro Gropelli is Director General of Connect Europe, the voice of leading providers of connectivity networks and services across Europe, a role he has held since 2024. He is also a Board Member at the European Cybersecurity Organisation (ECSO).

Alessandro previously held senior roles at ETNO, including Deputy Director General from 2018 to 2024. In this capacity, he led the ETNO+ transformation project, culminating in the launch of Connect Europe. Earlier, he served as Director of Communications (2016–2018) and Head of Communications and Media (2013–2016). In 2023, he was named among Politico’s Power 40 as one of the most influential figures in European affairs.

Before joining the Association, Alessandro was European Affairs Advisor at Vodafone Group (2010–2013) and vice-Chair of the GSMA Europe m-commerce Working Group. He began his career in public affairs at Telecom Italia and the European Parliament. He holds an Executive MBA from Copenhagen Business School and a Master Degree from Bocconi University. He also trained at MIT Sloan, Berkeley Haas and at the Hitotsubashi University of Tokyo.
